Instagram Follow-Back Ratio — What It Means & How to Check Yours
2025-10-31
Your follow-back ratio shows how many of the accounts you follow also follow you back.
It’s one of the easiest ways to spot “ghost follows” or low-engagement accounts that clutter your feed.
What is a follow-back ratio?
Formula:
followers ÷ following = ratio
Example: if you follow 1,200 people and 600 follow you back, your ratio is 0.5 (50%) — balanced but improvable.
Why it matters
- High ratio (80–100%) → tight, engaged network
- Moderate ratio (50–80%) → typical for creators or small businesses
- Low ratio (<50%) → you might be following too many inactive or one-way accounts
A low ratio doesn’t mean you’re doing anything wrong — it’s just a sign your feed may need cleanup.
